ON WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY
“It takes a special kind of crazy to want to do this day after day, week after week, year after year.
It also takes a high level of sacrifice. You’re working on the weekends when 95% of the rest of the world is off and enjoying life. You miss birthdays. You miss other weddings. Sometimes you miss funerals. You miss a lot.
This industry gets glorified and idealized, but when you really get down to the nitty gritty of it all, we’re just service providers that work our asses off and try to fit in a little of our creativity whenever we can.
Few probably struggle with work/life balance more than us. We spend our lives trying to make people we barely know as happy as possible, sometimes to the detriment of the relationships we share with friends and family that mean the most to us.
It’s a crazy, bass-ackwards profession to work in much less to make a conscious decision to choose to do this for a living. And I wouldn’t have it any other way. But it’s certainly not for everyone.”
